Hot stamp foil is a dry printing medium used in the hot stamping process to apply durable, high‑gloss metallic or pigmented finishes onto a wide variety of substrates. Unlike thermal transfer ribbons, which are designed for barcodes and variable data, hot stamp foil is primarily used for decorative branding, packaging enhancement, and security printing – delivering eye‑catching results that cannot be achieved with standard inks.
How it works
Hot stamp foil consists of a multilayer construction: a PET carrier film, a release layer, a color or metal layer (usually vapor‑deposited aluminum for metallics), and a heat‑activated adhesive. When a heated die or type is pressed against the foil, the release layer softens, the adhesive bonds to the substrate, and the color/metal layer transfers precisely onto the surface. The carrier film is then peeled away, leaving a clean, crisp image.
