In logistics and transportation, labels must endure rough handling, moisture, temperature changes, and long transit times while remaining fully scannable. Thermal transfer ribbons produce durable, smudge‑proof barcodes and text that stay readable from warehouse sorting to final delivery. Common label materials include synthetic papers like polypropylene (PP) and polyethylene (PE) for weather‑resistant applications, as well as coated paper for short‑term indoor use.

 

For most shipping, warehouse, and freight labels, a wax‑resin ribbon offers the ideal balance of durability and cost. For extreme conditions – such as outdoor pallet labels, air cargo, or cold chain logistics – a full resin ribbon is recommended to provide maximum resistance against abrasion, UV exposure, and moisture.

When can wax ribbon be used?


Wax ribbons are suitable only for short‑term, indoor‑only labels that will not face moisture, abrasion, or long transit times. Examples include temporary warehouse rack labels, inner carton sorting labels, or short‑cycle inventory tags. While wax ribbons offer the lowest cost, they are not recommended for any label that must survive the outdoor supply chain. For labels that travel, always choose wax‑resin or full resin.
